Captivated by the Incarnate Word

Becoming a Nun of the Order of Preachers

Responding with love to Love Himself

Jesus looked on him with love…

God created each and everyone of us sheerly out of love! Our lives are then meant to respond to that love. A vocation is the way we each live out this response. A life as a Dominican contemplative life, consecrated by the evangelical counsels, is one way of living the Gospel imperative giving to every Christian to “follow me”.

Stages of formation in becoming a Dominican contemplative nun:

ASPIRANCY

Aspirancy is a year long time of discernment becoming acquainted with the monastic vocation and how it is lived at Corpus Christi Monastery. During this time there are exchanges with the vocation directress and periodic visits, first in the guest area outside the enclosure and then a time of “live-in” to experience the fulness of a day-to-day living of monastic life in a Dominican monastery. With the aid of the Liturgy, common life, silent prayer, Adoration, meditation and study of the Word of God, you can, in simplicity and joy, discern more precisely your call to Dominican monastic life.

POSTULANCY

If you still feel God is calling you to this way of life, and the community confirms your aspiration, you can request to enter the monastery and begin your formation as a postulant for one year while continuing your discernment.

NOVITIATE

If after this first year of postulancy you wish to begin to live Dominican life more fully and the community accepts your request, you receive the white habit of St. Dominic and begin your novitiate. The novitiate is a period of two years. Common life with solitude and silence, attentive presence to God, especially through the gift of the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, a relationship of loving union with God and growth in charity, growth in humility and fidelity to the life of regular observance all prepare you to become a spouse of Jesus.

FIRST PROFESSION

After two years a novice is admitted to a further probation, which begins with the profession of temporary vows. By our profession we dedicated ourselves to God, following Christ and leading a Gospel life in the Order, so that our baptismal consecration may achieve its effect more completely.

After three years of profession, vows are renewed year by year for another three years.

SOLEMN PROFESSION

By solemn profession a nun is totally consecrated to God in the Order until death.
